Down syndrome

If you are considering adoption because you have had an amniocentesis test confirm your baby has Down syndrome or your baby has been born with Down syndrome this page is for you. Below is some information that may be useful.  You can also hear what Greer has to say about her experience of adopting children with Down syndrome

The New Zealand Down Syndrome Association website has comprehensive information for people who have a Down syndrome baby. Their website can be found at www.nzdsa.org.nz

There are many families happy to adopt a baby with Down syndrome. With open adoption you can remain in touch with your child if you wish to. You don’t have to make a decision about adoption before the child is born. You can take time after the baby is born to get to know your child and to make up your mind.

Please read through the other pages on this website under Adoption to find out about the adoption process.
